Wink Software Plays a Slightly smaller role

I have been learning Maya for a Little while and they are essentialy the same. Powerful features, different menu but the same results, if you Learn Maya You will be able to pickup Max quickly and vice versa. Its realy not the software that matters, it is the artist, all you need is the basics and you can master any software. check out issue 95 of 3d world and you will see what I am talking about.

Maya has a higher learning curve but packs more power. 3ds Max is easier to get started with but falls short in a few areas. However, the two are more and more becoming feature packed by the same developers since Autodesk acquired Alias/Wavefront a while back. It really comes down to which interface feels most intuitive to you. Over time, I think that the differences in functionality/power between the two will be less and less so choose the one that is easier for you to learn and work in.

3Dmax is cheaper as compared to MAYA. If we need only logo and small item animation the 3Dmax is perfect while MAYA provide high level of animation. both are animation masters and provide excellent animation result but the difference depend on the price and some features.

It totally depends on the type of company, type of output they do... (movies, games, etc)
Though, to give my honest opinion.. I can speak for Maya, 3d MAX and XSI.. and most companies (Larger ones) use two if not three of them.

Both are great programs but Maya is based more for high end animation. If you just need to animate logo's and other smaller items and not full 3d characters then stick to 3ds max or even lightwave 3d.....
