animation? which one? the longest animation which i've done alone is "Tongue Twisters", it took 3 month ... i know, i'm lazy :)

Can you please tell me something? Is the volcanic erruption a still 2d image too or is it a motion footage?
And if it is only a still 2d, then how did you get the effect to make it look as if it was moving?
Please tell.
