Good going. Nice animation style. Do they all were freelance project? How much time time do you give to different things? Is all of the stuff you had done solely?

Hi Afu,
thanks for the comments. Not all of the work was freelance, the robots from the music video were done for fun. The little pink droplets in the milk were freelance for an animation studio in Ireland, some other characters were for website companies. Yes all of the characters were modelled, textured, rigged and animated by me. In Ireland you have to be a 3D generalist for work. I also do motion graphics which I have to update more of on my showreel.

Its hard to say how much time is given for each character animation project. Sometimes the client wants 15 seconds of animation in a week, with Mental Ray rendering that is quite difficult unless you have a really fast new computer. Sometimes I try to animate something I've never done before and it can take 2 or 3 weeks until I am happy with it.

Hmm good. Yes, at many places the generalist is more preferable. So do you use plugins for body and facial or just basic manual rig?

Yeah, I understand on client requirement - its very unrealistic situations.

So, how is the industry doing there?

I don't use any plugins really, just what comes with the software. The industry here has been hit by the recession, its a very small country so its a small industry, but lately things look like improving slowly. The Animation industry in the UK looks much healthier.

Whats it like in the industry over there? What 3D software is most popular?

So what software do you use? Its good to getting things done with things available in 3D package. Oh, yes reccession overall hit many. Good to see there are in improving and yes UK had bigger industry so eventually it would be little better.

Industry here is also small. Being so many problems here, investers don't invest and industry suffers. Here we have 3 to 4 known companies and of which some of them are not progressing but have done some good work, but however all businessman loves money and think about themselves. Anyways industry is in and out all the time.

For character animation companies mostly use Maya here and for some its 3D Studio Max. And for architecture and products, its Max.
