Rep Power: 10 ![]() | New Building Hi guys, a few weeks ago I was asked by an assosiation to make a 3d image about their new building. They going to host workshops and confereneces about traditional craftsmanship, tradition preservation, and stuff like that. So here is the model of the new building. The pic was made with 3dsmax 6.0, rendered with scanline renderer. As lighting I used a skylight with light tracer plugin. As the next step I want to set up my lights for the scene. I would like to use mental ray with GI, but I'm kind of having problems with the setting up of the GI. If anyone has a tip how many lights should I pu into the scene and what should I set in the GI please share it with me. Oh, any comments? |

Because what you have now looks great! :) I sugest you to use a lightsource with raytraced shadows in your lighting setup. You should get some good results by combining a skylight and a light with raytraced shadows. (Also use raytraced shadows on sunlight!) Good work! Last edited by Anifacted; 06-06-2006 at 08:17 AM.. |

Rep Power: 10 ![]() | Thanks guys for the comments. Anifacted: ususally my scenes look better with mental ray, but never tried GI, usually faked it with a bunch of lights, but that doesn't look ok. I also tried the tutorial from 3dtotal with my model and somehow it doesn't work. Or withe spots apear or the shadows are wrong. |

Rep Power: 10 ![]() | Well, after a few days of test rendering I come to the conclusion that the scanlnine rendering can be as good as mental ray, after a good postproduction in photoshop there is no difference. So I will render the scene with scanline renderer. Here is the same model rendered as in the final scene. Any comments? |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | my comment is that , do you think it looks like realistic building or not? i can't see the roof and wall paths, texture and realistic shadows. maybe you will try to imrove the rendering, option, thanks, but the model is very good, keep going |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Hey Model looks good, are you planning to texture it? The roof looks a bit sharp on the edges what is it made of? I'd also look at making some of the edges a bit ruffed up everything looks to be perfect, so a couple dents here bit of surface detail there. But great start i like the concept. Hope it helps. Joel |
