That could be it, if you have to many polygons and low RAM memory then Max show error and close... same thing hapened to me..

If you use MeshSmooth modifier don make Iterations more then 2
And maybe your wheels are spending too many polys, try to make new wheels with less polygons

In ur case i dont thinks so is the problem of havin 2 many polys to make max jam.Its always the shape topology that literally "confuses" max at many times to hault down. For eg. if u model wheel rim using shapes probably a circle and five circles attachen inside its boundaries(for the bolts),after that u would convert it in poly and shape the spokes and when u chamfer things for correct meshsmoothing max gets killed and close downs, leavinvg a error message.

10x boys .. this audi is finished from a lot of time .. in that time i`ve worked 2 cars . my bad that i don`t post this audi ( final renders ) but i will post my last cars with a wire soon . i think that error was beacause the rims , because when i moved the rims in other save , the program didn`t close with that error .

ps : srry ( again :D ) for my bad english ;) c`ya
