Thumbs down Voting System Flaw

I was looking at your previous contest "dream car" and the method you used for voting. Its very clear there was cheating in the voting system. The majority of the posts were by users on their first post. Its obvious people were seting up multiple fake accounts just to vote for themselves.

I did a little reasearch and over 80% of the votes were by users with 1-5 posts and the accounts have never been used since.

I think your voting system should be changed for this contest.

i was thinking about this, i think your right.
for solution, maby these could help(if you think we must solve it). only the users that participate in this competiton could vote. for a bigger part of users, those who post a real(good) thread could vote.:)

Yes.. something like only users who entered in the contest can vote and no voting for yourself.

Or voting for everyone but only allow one vote from a single I.P. address (doubt the system is capable of that)

From another view I say kill user voting all together and here is why... I enter my car in alot of car shows where entrants vote. Car owners cannot vote for their own cars but what you find happening is friends vote for each other while loners are ignored which gives groups of friends the advantage.

The best voting system is to have a few judges (not in the competition) judge the models while not knowing who the authors are.

Just my 2 cents

IP indentification is not a solution. Using some programs and proxy servers I can enter the website from as many different IP addreses (including geographically) as I want. And I disagree about restricting voting only by participants, this is not serious. I think the voting must be as open and wide as possible, it should be more interesting and fair. But in the end, after public voting I think it's possible to start open disscussion between participants to let them express their own opinions. But I think Stryker know much better what and how to do to aviod cheating and make it interesting. Finally, I think this competition is for enjoying and not for making business.
Cheers

well... Its a competition to earn a prize and to some people thats business.

All competitions no matter what the kind should be fair.

Thats right. I think so, too.
This would be a really fair way.
Nobody can think that he isn't the winner because everyone else cheated.

But the sollution that only competitors could vote does also sound fair.

Greetings!

If users who entered in the contest will vote be vote they will be vote for the most bad work, not for the near competitor. In the result will win a model obviously not the best!

hmmm ... well, that may be thrue
and it would not be good

it seems that only a jury would be really fair.

need a couple judges with different backgrounds...

one judging from a military background
someone looking at creativity
someone judging modeling skill
someone looking at textures and materials
etc...

then average them all out

Thats good, but I think it's too late for anonimous judging, everyone knows each model already entered. To my opinion, the best system of voting and competition is on 3dluvr.com http://contest.3dluvr.com/about/rules.php
