| Lightwave Enthusiast | If I had to choose between the 3, I would pick the GeForceFX 5900SE. ATI's Raedon is almost as good, but the GeForce has CineFX engine and is capable of 22.4GB/SEC Memory Bandwith, although the Radeon has an impressive antialiasing engine. As for a motherboard, there isn't real a "best" one for CG- It all depends on your processing power, although the MB is just as important. Personally, I would pick a MB that has a higher FSB (Front Side Bus Speed)- This means the it accesses the componets you have faster. Also, I would pick one that uses RIMM as opposed to DDR. Where as DDR-SDRAM (Double Data Rate - Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) is very popular and basically inexpensive, RIMM or RDRAM (Rambus ((Named after the developer)) Dynamic Random Access Memory) is more than twice as fast. The only downside is it MUST be installed in equal pairs. DDR's maxium transfer rate is (amount of memory) @ 500MHz whereas RDRAM is (amount of memory) @ 1066MHz- but all of the MB that support RDRAM a trash, so you probably be better off sticking with DDR. As for the CPU, I recommend something with high pipelined cache, such as P4 2.8GHz. It has 800MHz bus speed and 512KB pipelined burst cache. Sorry to blab, but computer hardware is my line of work, CG is just a hobby (for now!). Here's my recommendations: GeForceFX 5900SE Soyo P4I875P Dragon 2 Platinum Edition |

| just for fun | Hi, i think, radeon is better for 3dsmax, but is you have money, just buy Quadro fx, that is the best, but you can't play with it:(

| Jedi Animator | My GeForce 5900 FX / 256 MB/Ram works fine ! and I don't see too much difference between the way they render ! I mean I uninstalled it ang got in my old GeForce 2 MX 400 and still I got the same result :( Dunno why, but I think its all based on the ram you're having :P |

| Registered User | I think the best is GeForceFX 5900 ULTRA or ATI Radeon 9800 XT ... the GeForceFX 5900Se is not so good because is equivalent with GeForceFX 5900 Xt and YOU MUST BE CARFULLY At the Ati card the "XT" card si best then no Xt card for example Ati Radeon 9800XT si BEST then Ati Radeon 9800 At the Nvidia car the "XT" card is worse then no XT card for example GeForceFX 5900XT is worse then GeForceFX 5900 and at nvidia the "ULTRA" IS THE BEST :) see the http://www.tomshardware.com/ is the best site in hardware test and they have a graphic card test hope is it stil on they pages ... if you want I will send you the test pics to you because i have save it on my pc. BUT this cards and this tests are for games and "sirpalee" have right the BEST card for CG are Nvidia Quadro fx and Ati FireGL here is the link of the article and test about that 2 Graphic Cards on tomshardware site http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...323/index.html and here is the link direct to Article and TEST about that 2 cards and 3D Studio Max 4.2.6 ...SO :) http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...00-x2t-09.html GOOD LUK hope this help. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | ok well the best graphics card out is the ATI Radeon X800XT, but at about $600 (US) it's out of most people's price range. i have a ATI Radeon 9800XT (256MB) which is about 350 US dollars, and i love it. the thing i don't like about the nVidia cards is most (if not all?) take up two PCI slots instead of one...and if you have a 6.1 channel sound card, firewire card, USB card, dual LAN, and whatever else gamers like me have, you don't usually have extra PCI slots to use :p
