Well, I guess it depends on what kind of CG you make.
I read about nVidia being better for Max's directX shaders(gaming), while ATI rules Open GL.

All I can add is that I have ATI 9600Pro 256MB for about 6months, and am very satisfied with it. Must be the memory, but it surely glides!:)
If you go more expensive, then I suggest 9800Pro or XT(around 300EU).

Hope it helps, and I bet Nvidia lovers will post their favs.:)

Graphics...hmm you need a gfx card to create them right ? Well it doesn't really depend which gfx card you have :) In 3dmax you can run with a GeForce 3 :) it will just enhance the gfx in the viewports . Also take note that RAM is the thing that makes the difference :) I currently have :

GeForce 5900FX 256 MB/Ram but I also have a GeForce 2 :) So it's not a big difference ;)

As I had been advising all my friends and peers who are looking for a new computer that is right for them, I keep on telling them that when you are buying a laptop and you plan to use it for work of for gaming, then you have to spend the extra money so that you will be satisfied with the product you have purchased (in some cases, they tried selling their computer to friends or retirees and just save money again to add to be able to buy another laptop, this time making sure it has at least 512MB or 1GB dedicated Graphics Card memory).

Nice 6 + year bump lol.

NVidia ftw. I used to be an ATI fan but since getting this gtx 560 NVidia has me sold forever.
