ideal rig

Quote:
Just a word of advice, I've been told that AMD is not a very good Proc, because of one reason. AMD proc. have a feature where they run ALL the time, even when your just sitting there in your chair looking at your desktop just blankly doing nothing, it is always running. If you go with Intel you won't have to worry about that. It wont burn out as fast. But thats just what I heard, so just be carefull
I'm sorry but I'll have to disagree i have tried both the AMD X2 6000+ dual core and the Intel core duo equivalent and i have to say the AMD is mush faster in the 3d programs i.e. rendering and view ports but the Intel is mainly used for gaming and such. but i digress.

My ideal rig:

4 cores AMD Phenom 9800+ @ 4 ghz (can be over clocked to 5.15 ghz!)
AM3 main broad with hybrid SLI and dual channel DDR3 (3 video card slots)
8 gig DDR3 corsair RAM
3 count em 3 Nvidia 9800 GTX Ultra SLI Video cards (when they come out)
1 terabyte maxtor hard drive
bluray burner
and finally windows XP!! (screw vista!)

and a total price of over $15000 !

I like Hugh's site but noticed some things were overlooked. Some of the most important things are small steps you can overlook. You might want to tear down and reassemble an old PC to practice technique first. If you hear a snap and turns off, or catches on fire you might have forgot something.
