| The Carnivorous Piglet | Hello, my name is bondkira and I'm a noob at this place! Glad to join here ;) Recently I've been having a problem with my laptop when it comes to working with any 3D software (I use 3DS Max 9 and little Zbrush). Rendering is very slow, working thru itself is very slow. It takes a minute to even click on objects! So I have decided to buy myself a new desktop. It's embarassing to say, but I really don't have a knowledge when it comes to computers, so I have NO idea what kind of computer would be good... I was hoping if anyone can give me a suggestion about good performanced desktop computers. Brands, size, etc etc... Thanks! :) |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | im sure you have a friend that knows much about computers. talk to them about building a custom pc. you'll save money that way and get more power for your money. there are also many tutorials on how to build one yourself if your pretty tech smart. |

| Main Gallery Moderator ![]() | well it all depend on how much you want to spend. in this kind of stuff you generaly get what you pay for. Personally I would recomend a motherboard that has SLI suppurt (2+ pci-e x16 slots for 2 video cards) at least 2 gigs of ram but 4 and up would be better. make sure the ram is compatable with the mother board ( like 667mhz, 800mhz and so on) for a video card i would recomend a nvidea geforce 8800 gts oc but if you have more money i would say go with the geforce 9800, also make sure u have a big anuff power supply to handle it all ( i have a 750 watt and it works just fine) and for hard drives it just depends on how much space you want(there are 2 diffrent types sata and ide) so to sum it up you will need... 1 motherboard ram videocard power supply harddrive here is a link to a computer that is very good "Titan Accelerator" Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz @ 3.00GHz+ DDR2 System (moniter, mouse, keyboard, speakers not included) (i have never ordered from there but from the reviews i have read it seems really good) anymore questions fill free to ask, and welcome to the site we are glad to have you here p.s. also in my opnion desktop computers are much better to do this kind of stuff on because they can handle a lot more and are easier to upgrade, however you dont get the mobility of a laptop P.S.S. also one more note, to get the full usage out of your ram and other compenints you also need to install a 64 bit OS like vista 64 bit or xp 64 bit Last edited by iamtravis316; 12-21-2008 at 04:16 PM.. |

| Member | Well, I think we need to know about your budget before we can really help you out because the more you are willing to spend, the better you can get. If you are going to use that desktop mainly for rending things (not for gaming), I'd suggest you these things : 1) Quad Core processor (I'd suggest Intel if you are using nVidia for your graphic card) 2) As much RAM as possible, based on your OS (Vista 32-bit can support up to 4GB if had not mistaken). Kingston and Corsair are good manufacturers. 3) Quadro series video card (if you are going to use nvidia graphic card) 4) Motherboard is not really an 'issue', but I'd suggest you to buy from some well-known manufacturers. I am using Gigabyte now, and I also used ASUS in the past. So far they are ok. 5) You should also buy 'branded' power supply because some 'cheap' power supply may burn your PC when it 'fails'. Cooler Master or Antec should be good enough. 6) I would suggest you to buy Seagate for your hard disk drive. It is quite reliable. 7) Other things, such as CD/DVD ROM or Floppy drive are up to you. Now I'm using Cooler Master casing and it's quite good. Make sure you have good airflow because the hotter your PC is, the slower it will perform. Thanks. |

| The Carnivorous Piglet | Thank you very much for your suggestions guys!! I really appreciate it ;) I am willing to pay for high price for this one, so I am aware that it is not gonna be a cheap shopping. I got about over $2000 on my budget, so hopefully that will get me somewhere. I already have a nice monitor so all I have to worry about is the desktop itself. I'm going to start looking for desktop right now. If I do get stuck I will definetely come back here for sure lol If there's anymore nice website, like iamtravis316 provided me, with high performanced desktop I would greatly appreciate it ;) Thanks again!! |

| Main Gallery Moderator ![]() | heres another good place Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! and TigerDirect.com - Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Components & Electronics and http://partspc.com/ and if you build your own computer $2000 should be more than anuff especially since you already have a monitor |
