When I start modeling the car with the plane I can't make the plane fit. It doesn't look the same as the picture. When I select the edges and move it down to model the size gets smaller. How can i make it look like the screenshot. Please give me advise!

Maybe you have the scale tool selected.
Try hitting W or clicking on the 4 sided arrow on the top.
