rx8 problems

hi the im quite new to 3dsmax trying to do the rx8 tutorial but im not able to get to this point

because i only get gray boxes and cant see the pics
i would greatly appreciate some help

How ya doin' bro. I am also in the process of doing the R-X8 tute (using different pics. to model my own car). I figured you have posted a lot of answers to peoples questions so I'll ask you. (I'm using max6) The tute says (creating the very first plane as to model the body) to select+shift+drag the edge of the plane to create a new one, but when I do this nothing happens (I have converted it to mesh and selected edge). Do I need to select a button that the tute doesn't specify (like create)? Or, even better, how would I create another plane from the existing one? Oh, and how did you switch the color of your M.E. panel in max (the screeny from your last post here)? Let me guess, Customize interface+colors. But how did you get it that eye pleasing blue and whats the item name I'm looking for (background, App workspace?)? Could you be so generous as to tell me your settings?

Hey there Illprophet.

well i didn't wrote the R-X8 tut and i haven't read it :D

I think that what you want is to extend the mesh of your model, don't you? to do this you have to be in edge mode the button is in the Selection rollout or you can press "2" on the keyborad so when you select an edge you should see it in red, then just press shift and and drag it with the gizmo. you can create another plane if you are in polygon mode, it's the same thing, select all polies+shift+drag.

for the UI colors you can load the "*.clr" files that are in the UI folder, i made this because i was bored of the default colors, but i'm too lazy to give you the settings, if you want i can send you the UI colors by mail :type:

That would be killer if you could send the settings via e-mail (Illprophet@msn.com). I know your not the author of the tute but it seems I have read a lot of your posts, answering a wide variety of questions, and since you were the last to Re. to this certain post, I thought you would be a good start. Sorry for any inconvienience. I don't know why, but I can't seem to make the suggested move. I am in edge mode (button depressed) in the selection rollout (see screeny and as stated below) but when I select+shift+drag anything...nothing happens. I thought I was missing something but as you have confirmed, I took the right steps just, nothing happens. I can do it my usual way but I thought I would try another. Unfortunately, It doesn't seem to be working.

it's ok i'm glad to help, but that's weird, it should work because i have max 6 too you must hold the shift key pressed while you are dragging the edges, maybe that's what you are missing, this is for editable poly and editable mesh and it should work,

Do you have the shift key asigned to a command? if so just reset the keyborad commands.

did you tried on editable poly mode too?

Yea, I've tried it in both modes but I haven't checked to see if my shift key is assigned...good idea!

i think your move gizmo is not selected or if you dont see your move gizmo try pressing "x" then you can know extrude the edges of you plane...

Thanks for your Re. pao_08. I see my move gizmo fine and I can select the edge with no problem. It's odd that nothing happens when I drag (with shift depressed) the edge. I can move the edge (as you can see) but I cannot create another plane from the existing one (as the tute suggests). Do you think I'm missing a regular plugin? I'm a miss at this and just don't know.
