Making Of Road Roller Car - Help

Hey there, long time listener first time caller.

I'm really interested in the roller road car tutorial found here, but despite the authors claim that "I tried my best to explain every step in developing this Car and added many references of images so its easy for you to find out the process," It's extremely difficult to get from certain steps the next, particularly Figure 3 to Figure 4. This is what we get:

Then i add "Symmetry modifier" to make the other half instance of the model finetuning work is also done (figure-4)
Could somebody please explain in slightly greater detail how he converted the extruded spline model to poly's and got all those planes. Moving the planes around to shape the car is something I understand, but it's more the conversions between type of objects that lose me.

I'm sure any further help with this tutorial would not only be appreciated by myself but many others as well. As it stands, the tutorial is useless to anybody other than an advanced user, who then intrinsically wouldn't need it.

Thanks very much!
Tom

Hi,

Converting to EditablePoly is really easy. It's done by the right click on the model. But you can also apply Edit Poly modifier.

"how he...got all those planes" - This is much more complex if you are not quite familiar with Edit Mesh and Edit Poly modifiers. It would take you splitting edges, applying Bevel, Extrud and Outline and some other actions using Edit Poly rollouts.
