Burning "S" (3ds max)

so,
i made a little animation for my friend but i think i want to add some fire to it. its the letter "S". i wanna burn it . i have looked in many places and i find PArrey and SuperSpray(however that works) but they look unreal. like 2d. could anyone describe how to make realistic flames or give a site with a tut?
