Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I'm trying to recreate your 3DM studio in Maya. I've made some good progress so far, but I'm still missing a couple of things. I hope your knowledge of 3DM can help me in Maya. See best render below. 1. I'm seeing the lit surfaces a lot in my mirrored ball. Could it be because of the shader I'm using on my walls? Right now I'm using blinn, although I used a lambert before with the same results. 2. Should I have all lights emiting both specular and diffuse? 3. I can't seem to get the highlight light to work. It's in the file for the image below, but it only seems to add an ambient light to the scene. I haven't played with that much, but if you have an idea, let me know! Thanks! |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | I am using V-ray (it means V-ray lights, V-ray materilas, V-ray GI). If you want to get similar result in maya it is the question of your imagination flexibility. BUT I don`t know Maya GI/Materials/Lights properties and cant tell you wat to do. The only thing I know - more Experiments - better result.

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I just need to know what looks wrong. V ray or Maya, the basics of indirect illumination are the same. I made some progress today. I changed the highlight from an area light to a spot light with barn doors partly closed. Maya doesn't have a linear light. This gives me the kind of highlight in the tutorial. Another thing I found is that my spot illuminating the back wall was too large and bright. This is flooding out the shadows of my objects. I still need to tweak that. Otherwise, I'm almost there. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I'm happy now. I did a few things. Mainly, adjusted the area lights to have show the form better. I also put a slight penumbra angle (1 degree I think) on the spot light giving the linear highlight. This spread it out a little. I think it looks a little more real that way. Also, I adjusted the spot light that is lighting the background. I increased its spread and penumbra in order to have a more uniform lighting. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Nice but overlighten a little. But if you like it it`s your business. I`d advice to decrease intensity of back ground light. This way you will get the effect of illuminating behind the sphere. Good luck, keep working
