Wow...an awfull lot of steps for such an easy surface.
Is there no sweep command in Maya? For me as a working Rhino specialist Nurbs are my job.
I would have drawn a railcurve and the profile of the box...sweep it and your done. Thats 2 curves and one command and you get one nurbs surface.
