To add a background in max 6 - just create a map and drag it into the environment slot.

To display an envronment image in the viewport - Go to views -> viewport background... (or simply press alt+b) then tick on "use environment background" and also tick "display background".

Mesh smooth issue

I have follow the tutorial but when I apply the mesh smooth, the back fin reduce his length. How can I avoid points from moving due to the mesh smooth.

Thanks

When and how are the two halves of the body joined together? I can see from the sample model that at some point it needs to be. Can some one tell me when and how i should do this.

Thank you :)
