help with lighting

what type of lighting is generally used in interior scenes using mentalray?

i ask because i tried many different light options and i seem to loose the color of my carpet and walls using photometric lighting vs standard lighting. i tried a combo of both and it seems to bring back some of my color but i'm not sure if it is right or not.

here is my examples:
the first is with standard omni lights
the second is with photometric lighting trying to mimic fluorescent lights
the third is a combo of both

hey MIke.....nice scene thr.....for the liting problem, as far as i knw, Photometric lites r used only if ye're scene is made wid perfect scaling, and is generally used by architectural firms, who gv the 3D artists the whole scale ov the room, as in the ht, width, etc....n if dese scales r nt followed, photometric lite mite nt do a justice to yer scene....

nw, if ye're usin mental ray.....try GI options, if ye hvnt done it yet.....but while tryin it, make sure dat in the lites' modifier panel, ye choose Manual Settings in Mental Ray Indirect Illumination section, n gv good no. ov GI photons, lyk 52000 or sumthin, n the decay level cn b bout 1.3-1.8(trial n error)....n in the renderer's GI options, play wid the values accordingly.....try out n lemme knw if ne more help....

i hv tried out n early mrng tym scene ov a living room wid only sunlite comin frm the window illuminatin the room, thru Brazil's GI use.....mite post it up in ma portfolio sumtym :)

well, like i said i changed the kelvin to 6000 for a more whitish hue and my color wasn't washed out anymore. current settings in indirect and global illumination for the lights are here and if you see anything that should be changed let me know. i don't know much about photometric lighting and exposure.

hey man, yer current image is lookin better dan any ov the rest...dats really good....

if ye cn do jus 1-2 more changes, it mite help yer scene much more....in the Indirect Illumination Tab ov yer Renderer, in the GI section, increase the "Maximum no. of Photons per Sample" to bout 1000, jus below it, check the "Maximum Samlping Radius" to bout 26 or sumthin.....well in tis case its a different scale, as ye used photometrics, i tried dese values on the common lites n scale, but jus try dese out, again wid trial n error....if the Radius value isn't perfect, many illuminatd spots will b visible in yer scene, which r the photons.....so jus try increasin Radius or decreasin the no. of Photons...

n eya, if possible, chek the Final Gather on, on dat Tab itself.....it'll increse yer renderin tym to a bit more...but gives awesome results :)

lemme knw :) good luck
