color/Layer/blending

Hi out there
could anibody give me a hit how to blend between the layers to get a true color.
I have just painted the whole texture in black and white to be free by choosing the color. Now I would create a layer on top an fill it with the color i want....but how to blend between both?
If I choose "color blending" I will get something like a neoncolor.

Thanks a lot.

Hi
please take a look at this tutorial from Dave King.
Down below you will find my Problem...
"Ok, here is my color mask.

By doing the greyscale first I have freed my mind from the constant struggle with color. I could focus on my composition, make sure the highlights and shapes are interesting and so forth. Its quick and easy.

Now I put the color back on. Here I have chosen two complimantary (I,e, clashing) colors to make the image dynamic, but have kept the saturation low on them so they are not horrible to look at.

"

How should I blend this 2 layers? Or are there just more layers to blend in??

Thanks a lot
Hilmar
