Lightbulb Brave: New Concept Art Revealed!

Three never-before-seen images from the development of Pixar’s Brave were unveiled today via Entertainment Weekly!

In addition to the jaw-dropping concept art, EW also revealed key details about the 2012 release. For example, Reese Witherspoon, who was previously set to play protagonist Merida, has been replaced by Scottish actress Kelly MacDonald due to scheduling issues. The film’s updated synopsis was also released:

"Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane)."

Sounds (and looks!) like Pixar has an exhilarating, mystical adventure on their hands. Featuring Pixar’s first female lead, Brave, directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman is set to open in US theatres on June 22, 2012.

Your thoughts?
