Australian Effects and Animation Festival

As part of the Digital Media Festival that covers different aspects of work for video, imagery and animation, the two-day Australian Effects and Animation Festival (AEAF) was held in Melbourne last week. Here is a short breakdown of the conference content.
Day One:
The Co-Producer of ‘Valiant’, Curtis Augspurger explained not only the technical breakdowns of bringing the Storyboard to Post, but also the pressures and difficulties of working on a small budget. In this production, they used scalable and totally reusable rigs for every character of the film. Technical demonstrations of Alias Motion Builder and Maya 6.5, as well as Apple Shake 4 folllowed on.
Lunch break gave attendees a chance to browse the array of exhibitors including Ballistic Publishing, showing off another incredible accomplishment of artwork in Exposé 3! After lunch, members of The Swish Group took us through some of the effects created for the Australian feature ‘The Extra’. A series of composite effects turned Melbourne (where the film was shot) into a large sprawling metropolis.
