Oh no! What is the render? How we can help you if we don't know what is the render was? I know same problem has mental ray. chek your shader, delet it and make one again. I has same trouble in maya when i open my scen in highest version. Change main shader!

if your using a third party rendering package like vray, brazil or final render you may need to check if the material you are using on your model can be rendered by the renderer you are using

try giving your model a basic "standard" material that anything will render

if that doesent work try flipping all the faces of your model, this sometimes happens when you import a model from a third party modeling program like zbrush or mudbox

hope this helps
cheers
