New to 3ds Max

I am very new to 3ds Max and I will have to say that the tutorials ont his site as well as others have been very helpful in learning the basics of the program. I have run into a slight problem though, I am wanting to learn how to use V-RAY and I down loaded the demo, V-Ray for 3ds max r9 for x86, installed it as I was supposed to (I think!), but when I start Max it is not at the location where I am supposed to assign a renderer.

When installing I chose the root folder where max is located and put the same thing for the V-Ray plugins. V-Ray additional files already has a link in it, do I need to make all three liks the same or does it matter.

Any feed back will greatly be appreciated.

well i gues the Vray-plugins should be inn the 3ds max pluggin folder.

Here is were i have the vray plugins_ adress:

C:\Util\Autodesk\3ds Max 2008\plugins

I gues you use programfiles instead of util.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it still nothing. Yes I use program files but that is not where my 3ds max folder is, it is in my documents and settings folder. So this time I used that as my root file and then documents and settings/3ds max for the vray plugins. I dont have a plugins folder for 3ds max in my documents and settings.

Well i dont know much about max 2009.
but every thing you instal for max need to be be instald withing C:\Util\Autodesk\3ds Max 2008 or for you C:\programfiles\Autodesk\3ds Max 2009 probably. the 3ds max folders in under your documents folder is just there to give you a clean workspace and have a good view over your work. all running stuff like plugins should be laid under rootfolder. but i know you know that ^^

are you sure it is the vray that suports 2009 you are using?
I gott my vrender90.dlr under C:\Util\Autodesk\3ds Max 2008\plugins and i'm running 2008. shouldnt you be using vrender91 or somthing :P lol just a tought.

welll i'm clue less. good luck mate :)

I guess that I down loaded the right one, This is the one that I down loaded "3ds Max 9 - 32-Bit" and it is what version of 3ds that I am using. I put it in C:\program files\Autodesk\3ds max 2009\plugins and that is when I got the error. Max wouldn't even start, I got a fatal error in max when it started up.

I also notice in a few of the tutorials that I have gone through they mention something about rendering with a HRDI is that another plugin that I need or is that something that Max already does. I am really interested in making realistic renders like the kitchen that you made iamtravis and the water spigot with the bucket that you made minimus. I find these renderings awsome and want to learn to do that!
