I am using 3ds max 9 32 bit. I am new to this field. I want to create long hairs for my model but the software is not supporting me. It provides me short hairs. Plz suggest me something.

May i suggest using splines, like those in the attachments, then you can make the hair as long as you desire

Play around with the settings and the shape to create the best results.

agree with them..another alternative...use alpha map for the hair.

example same method..imagine mesh is longer with alpha hair texture :
