Unhappy Locking Background

I'm trying to make a car with the splines. I'd setup the bleuprints and started the spline modeling. Now I want to move the vertexes to match the bleuprints, but when I select some vertexes I also select the bleuprint/plane.

Is there a way/button to lock the bleuprint/plane so that I can't select it. I'f read the help files but can't find anything usefull

Select your bleuprint/plane and go to Display -> Freeze -> click to "Freeze Selected"

Send a message via MSN to Pyros
Select the blueprint?? What you need to do is apply the picture of the blueprint as "Background", not apply it to an object... once you have selected it as background, do as Stryker says and freeze it...
Good luck!!
