Question HELP PLEASE!!! 3ds File trasfer tutorial.

I require some files I have (jpegs, tifs, etc.) to be used as guidelines for a project in 3ds max (standard procedures I know). I do not know how to import these images into max. How do I save them as a max file, ans import them so I can use them???? Any links, tuts, sites will be helpful thanks.

If I have correctly understood, you need to open any picture (jpegs, tifs, etc.) and save it in max file? But I don't know possible it or not. Most probably is not.

Confused

Stryker - I think im confused as to what I am asking.

What I need is called (i think) a "Reference image" a 2d image where I can model over top . I beleive that many users who model characaters, with nurbs, box modeling etc., use reference images as guidlines. This is what I need.

Examples:

See how they have a reference image in the viewports? Thats what I need.

I understood. There are two ways:
For viewports: Run 3ds max -> Views -> Viewport Backgraund -> File and choose your image.

But this way is bad for modelling!

Better as is shown here

Put two boxes and Go to Rendering -> Material Editor and apply your image!
