Help me to reducing render time

Hi,
I want information about reducing render time in 3Ds max9 32 bit + Mental ray. .
Is my system compatible for rendering this Scene file - (file size-261 mb, polys-1916750, object-5844, 231 mb textures with alpha)?
System configuration
Intel core2duo E7300 (2.66 MHz)
RAM 4 GB, NVIDIA Geforce 8600GT 512mb
Windows XP sp2,

Please guys help me in reducing my rendering time with this configuration (mentioned above) and if u can give some information in updating my configuration please suggest me.

Below is my render image which take around 4hours to render..

well i dont know about 3ds max but in maya you could share the uv's and textures to reduce render time.will you do some animation ?if yes so you could add some blur and add render BG (if your camera wont be going near that point).Well you can lower the qualaty,delete the items in the background and replace them with a render,buy a better comp or just wait.
