Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Games Industry 3D modelling Hi, I am a 3rd year Game design student, currently finishing my studies and researching a future career. I was wondering if anyone has any games industry experience relating to 3DS Max, especially with regards to level design. My main area of interest is the importing of 3D assets into game engines (especially using Hammer). Thanks in advance for any comments :) |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Parsnip, I have developed many 3D assets for videogames, mainly importing them into Hammer and UnrealEd. I would advise that you build up a large portfolio before applying to any sort of videogame job, as this is more important than even your degree (not to piss on your parade lol). Are you working currently working on anything that will help develop your portfolio? |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | yes, I am designing a Half-Life 2 singleplayer mod at the moment, and as soon as I finish uni I'm going to start building it. The mod is going to be very visually orientated, with a few large set pieces requiring lots of models, so this would be a good way to add to my portfolio. Speaking of which, I bought a domain and I will post all of my models on the website, I'd prefer to have an online portfolio. Greg B Game Design This forum doesn't seem to be very game-focussed, does anyone know a forum more specific to my interests? Thanks |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | that sounds like a good way to build a portfolio if you want a grounding in making videogames. A portfolio specific to your field is always preferrable. I don't have a lot of knowledge specific to game design, but i have a friend who is into this kind of modelling, he uses the forums at halflife2.net a lot, maybe you should ask for help there, i'm sure that you would get a better response. Good luck parsnip ^^ |
