Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Creating and rendering realistic grass Is there someone who could help me or give some tips? I have some projects for an architect/design company and I want to have realistic grass in a scene of a small street/area. Everytime this is buggin me again! I used hair&fur, but it is very heavy and i cant get the result i need. now I'm trying to scatter mrProxy's from a 0,5 x 0,5 mtr across the planes. but when rendering it stops at 5,7% of GI. "running out of memory" it says. grass-o-matic is also in the list of things-to-do. but the program also creates a lot of polys. Also without the grass my scene is already 6.000.000 polys and I have yet to add the trees and bushes! All together will go to approx 15-20 million polys! So who can help me out??? The time is slowly ticking away, so I dont have much time left for experimenting... edit: I'm using 3ds max 2010 and mental ray

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | This is somewhat the scene I have to adjust (it will be much more open and thus more things to render) ![]() I've created grass before with displacement but somehow it doesnt work in my scene now. Maybe because of an other object (the walkways) that uses displacement??? ![]()

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Ok, I fiddled around with the hair&fur modifier and came to this result! this is just a plane 1m x 1m with 5000 hairs. for a good grass color i used a map on the tip and root color with the color adjusting green and brownish. for render speed less segments and specular. Also for some better placing and cover from the groundplane I adjusted the Multistrand params. As you see the standard "tall grass" preset needs a lot of adjusting! I did this on my crappy laptop, so let's see what happens if I cover 50m2 with grass on my workstation. I'll keep you posted!
