Unhappy Combining objects for easy movement problems

Right now, I'm working on a fun little project that involves alot of movement. I need to rotate many objects together, kind of the a 180, though the objects are rotating on there own axis. Is there a way to create an axis for multiple objects, or a way to make objects circle around something (without assigning a path, in terms of creating a line for the object to use).
Would love the help

I think that there are many ways to do this , but I'll only write 2 :
1. select all objects you are trying to rotate along 1 axis , then go to group menu/group on the top menu bar.Now try rotating.
2. Turn 1 object into editable poly and attach the other objects using the attach button. At the end you will have 1 obect and can adujst the pivot point at your will

The issue there is that the objects are in movement already, and if I combine them, then every movement I made previously will be affect and will turn around the new axis. Thus the rest of the objects are completely off. I tried just selecting them all, and it moved properly, but I did a mistake and I selected them again and it suddenly had the same problem as before.
This is confusing lol

Edit: The problem occurs when I'm in animation mode setting keys. When I'm out of it, I can spin them all together, yet when in the key mode they turn by them selves on the seperate axis.
