Bones in Max 9

I'm having problems with bones on my model. The envelopes do not show circular but oval. Please see pic. How can I fix that?

r u sure that is not the problem of the view?iTry to see it in top view.
Did u scale it(the bone)?
It's realy stange.

I didn't scale the bones. On the top view the envelopes look oval shaped to.. I tried a new file. I created a Cylinder and added bones. That worked perfect. But
the model I really want to bone (no pun intendet) keeps giving me the same problem. Has anybody ever come across this?

That's realy stange, try with character sutdio biped, i think it's better than a bone.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to do that. Its just that it took me a while to rig this character.
