3d max splines ... help

hey!!


i need help with splines .... the problem is that i made an Spline cage. and then converted it into surface and then into editable poly but now the problem is i cant use the cut tool on it ... i mean i can use cut tool but only at the main boudaries ... if i try to click inside the cage i cant use it..... Sad

i had attached the image have a look at it and u will understand it better....

And this only happens when i use splines and convert to surface modifier!!!!

i dont know since i dont have had that problem and dont often use splines...but have you tryd to use edge select and cut....it shouldn't make a diffrence but...try. and have backfacing off becaus that can often fuck things up.

and why not make the cage out from a box ?:P the shape looks prittey simple.

Actually i am modelling a car

Actually i am modelling a car and i am almost done with the basic shape which i did with splines and now i want to make one cut in the car .... there i am stuck i tried everything .. like as u said with edges. and with backfacing off but its same...
it is ok with box , plane and everthing it only happens when i convert splines into surface and then to editable poly its bit strange... thats only the sample image... !!!

do it happen every time..anyway shape it is when you convert to surface and then poly?...or is it just when it's box shaped?

cant you convert directly to poly?

or maybe editable mesh then to poly?

it happens what ever shape it is .. and it is not possible to convert splines directly to editable poly or mesh .. first you have to convert splines to surface ..

i close to never do splines...and the only splines i use are the primitive splines as circle and stuff and they can you convert directly....

what splines do you use?


i always do box modeling but i try to help as good as i can :P

it was really small problem.... i have to check the flip normals after i convert it to surface..

splines can be converted to nurbs which is very easy to deal with. you can draw a spline shape and cut into a nurbs object with whatever shape you like its similar to boolean but its more flexible. with nurbs all the editing is done inside the nurbs object itself.

here are two nurbs objects
this one uses three lines, 3 splines

exactly as you just said it. make your rectangle and your other shapes inside of it, and attach them alltogether then give it a surface. if you do it the front viewport you could apply garment maker and get a surface
