| Registered User | Been working on my first car model for long yes its again an audi tt! :( but I am not as skilled as others around here so my audi is crap! its not complete yet, and I dont know when it will be. Maybe I chose wrong method to make it..I box modeled it while most other people use patches...(converted to editable poly yes?) |

| GS member ![]() | Car modeling is not so heavy, but before you try it you must spend some time "playing" with your modeling program. You have to exercise by reading some tutorials, that way you will improve your modeling skills. Also, when you start modeling a car you have to place some reference images (aka blueprints). Most of all you have to do it slow, because if you want to do it fast you will have dozens of errors... ( i know that :lol ) |

| Huey Yeng | You might try using spline if you're using 3ds max and extrude it and using a lot of boolean operation to shape the car. ...Hmm maybe I will try car modelling after I've done with my current project. :)

| Registered User | I did have reference but the blueprints werent accurate. but I admit it, I screwed it up. The windshield area was very dificult for me. noticed later on in the process that the hood is more raised up rather than lowered down. Any tips would be appreciated.(maybe I should have put this in WIP?) |

| Registered User | Also; if you're having problems with reference photos. (Almost unavoidable!) Then look here: Put in your RefPics in the three/four important viewports: Left, top, back and front. When they're in their right places, add a Point (found under: Create-->Helpers-->Point) to the scene. Place the point, first in the top view. Now try to find the same place in the front view, and move the point to there. If the left/right doesn't fit at all, you should convert that left-RefPic into a editable poly, so you can drag it around and make it fit that way. You may want to add another point in the back of the car, to get even more accurate. Here's a picture of the point I made for my scene: Last edited by Anifacted; 04-28-2006 at 12:04 PM.. |

And thanks anifested, but I knew that and also used it to some extent on my car but almost always, the blueprints in the left viewport wont match the one in the other...they are disproportionate and that would confuse me even more. also, Thanks dragomir for the tutorial link. I must try something like that for the wheel arches...I just cant seem to get the circular pattern right... Last edited by yashrg; 04-27-2006 at 11:12 PM.. | |
