There are better things!

I use Dark Basic Pro and Game Studio they are easier to use and understand. Use those and you'll hardly need to look for tutorials.

engines to use

Coding your own engine will take a long time and will be very difficult to do without a proper programming eduction degree.
I advice you to use a free engine or cheap engine. I use 3drad and 3Impact. 3Impact is a new physiscs simulation engine which allows you to create a 3d interactive envoriment in a easy way with all the power of a proffesional expensive engine. 3Impact can be found on www.3impact.com (99$reg and a free version) I also like a very easy to learn 3d engine called 3drad and that can be found on www.3drad.com ( difirent prices deppending on version and type)
There are also alot of other engines such as blitzbasic (basic like language pretty easy to learn) darbasic (pro) 3d game studio gamemaker crystalspace (free and very powerful but also very difficult to master) for more information on engine surf to: http://cg.cs.tu-berlin.de/~ki/engines.html the best site on engines as far as I know. C and C++ are just as difficult as you make them I recommend that you first get a nice C++ compiler such as VC++ or Dev C++ (which is free) and get the direct X libraries which can be downloaded from msdn in the form of a rather large SDK. If you have any questions on specific a part of game programming than I can try to answer that but I have mainly been using other engines which only needed scripting languages to program a game. I don't exactly know what you want to make or create but if you are aiming at building a proffesional quality game you should find the resources and people that can help you out because learning from a few tutorials from the net will not get you far. Hope this helps.
