Solid to transparent look

Hi.
How can I make a solid to transparent effect in 3DS? I mean, a draw a vessel and I'd like that, during animation, the shell change form a metalic look to a transparent, in a way that you can see the interior.
Thanks

have you tried animating the material? if not, it's very easy - you have the metal material on the shell, turn on auto key, set your first key and then scrub the time slider to where you want it to be the most transparent and then go into the material editor and make it as transparent as you want it, it will automatically set the key and now turn off auto key and there you go. scrub the time slider and you can see the effect.
Hope this helps! :)
