I think each of them is good  All depends on that you want. My choice is V-Ray. Fast and convenient render!

BTW: V-ray - http://www.chaosgroup.com

I usually stick with the default renderer... because I didn't have the time to try others... Latelly I've been trying out brazil and look really good, but haven't been able to master all of its possibilities...
I'll see if I can try out more and comment...

not really...from my opinion, renderers help you with the final product/results(quality).example a more photorealistic or cartoon look.it depends.the default renderers done a good job...but, if you want other result..renderer do helps.:togo:
its up to the user eventually....
*hey...i've just tried Brazil..i dont realize that there are a lots of renderers that support max out there.
:coolp:

Bazza, don't sweat it... it's not an obligation to try other render engines, but if you have the time, give them a chance because you'll be amazed of what you can do with them...
The real issue here is that we all know that we can do better than the last image we've produced, so if there are tools that will make it easier for to improve ourselves, be sure we will at least try them!!!
Good Luck!!!

There are some very nice ones:

Brazil - It's awesome for it's effects and it's artistic touch
True Space - Nice for that video game render style
Mental Ray - Nice for realistic drawing look a-like
VRay - Fast, smooth and powerfull. Architecture's best for me

I tryed the Brazil beta test plugin and it looks great, the only wrong with it is that on the top and on the bottom of my pics it puts on its logos and stuff like that, so you can only see the center of the pic. Anyone knows how can I take it off, because I don't have 1200 dollars the full version.

Don't you know a exactly the site, where I can do that. I know the full version is worth its prize, but it's too expensive for me.
