you could start with 2d art, which u could use as a reference for your 3d object.
It's much easier that way.

You could start with something simple like a fish, drawing in a paper with a pencil.
Next you could scan the fish in, and make it perfect in photoshop in high resolution.
And finally, you start creating it in 3ds-max or simular programs (if you intend to do 3d).

I could be wrong, could you be more specific? What should be the final result of your work?

For 2D and 3D there are lots of tutorial websites (Which also teach you all the functions of the software you want to use). My advice is you start with the easy ones, and build it up. Believe me, if you start with too hard tutorials, you won't finish it properly and get annoyed which ruins your will in learning it properly. Just choose a tutorial which is easy and appeals to your interest.

I dont think it's allowed to post url's of other websites, so the only thing i can say is, search for "3ds max tutorials" or "2d tutorials" on google.
Im sure you'll get good sites with lots of good tutorials there.

the way i learned 3d. was by getting me a free copy of 3ds max. you gett it from the autodesk homepage. and from there it was just lookingaround , reading tuts on the nett. gett some friends on the forums, it will be slow....it will be hard...and it will take some time. but in the end you will gett the hang of it :)

Tom7 is right, i remember old times, when i was realy realy small fish in 3D/2D. I used to try some hard tutorials because the reasult was just so owesome ;). But i didnt finish anyone. Why? becouse ppl who write thouse tuts supposed that u know what there r talking about 8-) trust me. u dont wanna get in this mess. 2nd hard think is , that a lot of these tuts were made with older version programs. when u buy the same soft now, it will be newer ver with a lot of inovations and changes.
Conclusion? just try google like:
3ds max for absolute beginners
Zbrush beginner tutorials
and so on.
