Hi everyone i'm newbie here, and i need your help in the making of vray caustics & material for the objects.i'm using vray 1.50 for max 9.right now i'm following the video tutorials to seek the knowledge. in the tutorial i had done the same things as tutorial says but unfortunately i'm not getting the same reflection caustic affect like in tutorial. ok let me explain !

as the tutorial says i have taken 4 teapots seating on a poly meshed box,and i have taken a vray light in the lights rollout and placed slightly 90deg above and between the 3 pots.and a camera placed from the top view.and these are the settings and parameters i've entered.

assign renderer/vray adv renderer 1.50 RC3/renderer

vray global switches:

geometry: displacement :on
lighting: light,shadows on
materials: reflection/refraction on , maps on , filter maps on.
max trans levels:50
trans cutoff:0.001
glossy effects :on
raytracing secondary rays bias:0.0

image sampler(anti-aliasing)

adaptive qmc
anti aliasing filter on : mitchell netravali
vray indirect illumination: refractive on/reflection off
default values for post processing
save maps per frame selected
gi engine: irradiance map
gi engine:quasi mote carlo

vray irradiance map:

current preset:low

vray caustice:on
multiplier:2
search dist:127mm
max photons:100
max density:0.0mm

vray environment:

gi environmet skylight override on
reflection/refraction override on

vray color mapping

type: linear mulitply
dark multiplier:1
bright multiplier:1
gamma:1
affect background on

Materials i have taken for 4 teapots

standard/vraymtl

diffuse:RGB 50,50,50

reflect: RGB 20,20,20
glossiness: 1
sub divisions:10
max depth 5
exit color black

refract: RGB 200,200,200
glossiness:1
subdivs: 8
IOR: 1.615
max depth 5
exit color(not selected/appear grey)
fog color white
fog multiplier:1.0
fog bias:0.0

BRDF

selected blin and the rest default

options

trace reflections on
trace refractions on
cutoff:0.01
double sided on
reflect on backside on
use irradiance map on
treat glossy rays as gi rays :only for gi rays
energy preservation mode : RGB

vraylight rollout:

light on
typle plane
intensity:units:default(image)
color:white
multiplier:1.5
size half length: 201.687mm
size half width:166.562mm

options

double sided off
invisible on
ignore light normals on
no decay off
skylight portal off
store with irradiance map off
affect diffuse on
affect specular on
sub divs 8
shadow bias 0.084mm

please check attachments.
my rendered teapot caustics scenes are the 1st pic & front view pic and tutorial rendered scene is 1 pic displayed with 3dsmax application on the background.take a look.

i dont know what exactly i'm missing here. the caustics and reflection/refraction on the tutorial looks so beautiful and shiny.what should i do to get the same affect.please help me on this one, and i need your valuable suggestions .thanks in advance.

First, make sure you have turned Caustics on. Then, you have to edit the search distance and number of proton. To get rid of the 'blotches', just increase the quality of GI.

Thanks.
