Hi there.

Rendering times can be increased depending on many factors like: complexity of your scene, materials, shadow castings, radiosity, ect. etc. some times can take even more than one hour to render.

There is no 3ds max for mac, actually there is no many 3d software for mac, i only know that cinema 4d works on mac and i've heard that sucks, but i don't know if that's true.

Up grading your video card won't help on the final rendering times, it will only help with the real time rendering on viewports.

When you work with large files, it slows down the viewports display, it may help to use the adaptative degradation feature. ("O" key) with this you wont see the actual model in real time, instead of it, you will see a box but is better for work flow, also increasing the swap space will help.

Since rendering takes more cpu than ram maybe the best, would be to upgrade your cpu or get a dual cpu workstation.

i hope it helps

looks like its a system problem, or may be you need to decrease the polygon number.... I think the configuration is good

I'm a mac user and I use cinema 4d its not sucks at all, I used to work with max on pc starting from max 2.1 ending with 4, I can't see a lot of differences between max and c4d except max is more proffessional and has more tools, I can do everything I did with max on cinema 4d and its very fast on mac.

I´m sorry, giko i don´t want to offend cinema 4d users, it´s what i have read on other forums and as i said i don´t know if it really sucks, because i have never used it, now that i think it, i shouldn´t have said that way, so i apologize for it. :D

Cool giko  i´m glad you dind't got offended.

I know that is really annoying when someone comes to tell, that the software that you use to work sucks, but like you said when the software that you use, covers all your needs, it is simply the best choice.
