Advice

Hi all,

I am a Maya user and need advice about what to concentrate on. I want to work in the Games industry as a 3d artist. I have fairly good skills when it comes to modelling and lighting, my texturing i am working on currently. Obviously they do need a hell of a lot of work to be at the same level as a competent industry professional.

I would like to know from the professionals out there a few things. What is the usual poly count for different models, for example a car, 3d environment (without props) and average gun and other similar models?

Is Maya a common application used in game production?

What would you professionals advise me to work on after looking at some of my work?

Also, what is the standard when it comes to five point poly's, are they accepted?

I would really appreciate any feedback, because at the moment i can't focus on one area. If this sort of question is unsuitable, could someone point me to a forum that could help.

Thanks in advance :)

I guess i really should have elaborated on these a bit. I can kind of answer a few of them, it's just i like to hear off other people because i think criticism aids me to improve. Oh, i'm currently trying to save to be able to do an internship and be able to live whilst doing it, i work as a game localisation tester in Germany.

So, i know Maya is commonly used, but as far as i know 3ds max is used more. Obviously when it comes to modeling, there's not much difference.

As far as i know you should avoid any n-gons in a model, but i often see models which have plenty. That's why i asked that question.

Anyway i guess the main one is please check some of my work on my 3dm3 profile and give me some feedback about how to improve my new work.

Cheers
