Rep Power: 5 ![]() | "Selective" smoothing??? Help needed... Hi guys, since I am a noob at modelling, I have a question that drives me nuts... While modeling with editable poly, I ran into a prob with smoothing the whole result, but I guess pics will speak for themselves... I have this.. which is OK, but with mesh smooth at 0 iterations, I get this... So, I want to smooth everything except the sharp edged bevel... I tried selecting the polygons I want smooth and applied the modifier to them, but still no go.. Please, any help appreciated for a modelling noob Thanks:) |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Hey Chris, thanks for the reply... I will try that, though in the meantime, a guy from CG talk said I should select the faces and apply 'auto-smooth'(below smoothing groups). That worked out, so I guess there are more ways, just didn't know the right one.:( Much appreciated. |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | That would be without using the mesh smooth modifier?..? I guess he's trick is easier, but the results from yours are better and can be controlled... Thanks again |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | the easiest and proper way is to set different smoothing groups for polies, when edge belongs to faces with different smoothing groups it remains sharp, if to faces with the same group it will be smoothed. |
