need some helps on my project

I'm a new to 3D modeling. I have to create a model of Mantis as requirement for my student project. I found some difficulties. Anyone can advise me which object should I use to model that Mantis? I'm using 3D studio Max 9. I know some basic things of it. Thank you all in advanced. :victory:

I'd like use the poly to model it.
It's pretty difficult to model it.

Well, first get some decent reference images and as many photos as possible (different angles).

Also if possible see one in real life to get a "feel" for it.

Try and get at least two reference images (left side and front if possible) if you have more then even better.

Start off were ever you find comfortable, then slowly work your way though, if you get stuck don't worry, make sure you save under different names (i.e. different versions) eg:

start_v1
mesh_detail_v2
mesh_head_body_v3

etc.. you get the idea, this way if you make mistakes, just load up the previous version and carry on.

Also, try and visualise the key parts of the insect and how you would approximate it, sometimes using standard primatives to start if off.

Hope that helps.
