Rep Power: 0 ![]() | General 3DS Max Help :) Hey, I'm pretty new on starting 3DS Max, but I don't want to seem like all the other people who say that here, I am actually fully/semi focused on getting working with 3DS Max properly. In the summer I am hopping to do a Games Development Course (at collage), and in that I will be, modeling scenes, programming, studying production of games and so on... So I was thinking maybe I should just start modeling now and impress them on my arrival. So this is my time to make a difference! Basically I have had 3DS Max for about 1/2 a month now, and have non-stop been messing around with it, reading tutorials, randomly pressing buttons, but to be honest it hasn't gotten me very far... I made myself a project, this was to make a Mecha bot (type thing) but well, I really don't know where to start or even, how to do it... Such as, if I made a body and an arm, I would make them all 1 object, which I'm sure is wrong since you wouldn't be able to move them individually after??? Sorry if at this stage I bore you, I just really do want to get some sort of idea on how to do things. I was wondering (since its the biggest part) if someone could sort of instruct me on how to create a basic model (forget texturing at the moment, that just seems miles too hard) but just something to get my brain tuned into how things are done. Thank you so much for your time. Steve ;)

| Registered User | first thing U need to learn is interface... without it U can't do nothing. i recommend u to learn mainly editable poly system, because its max's strongest tool to model objects. after that... when u know how to quick use quad menu and toolber panel... i'm willing to tell u some theories how to create correct models, with meshlow specialization :alc:

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Well, thanks for all the responses, I appreciate it ;) I think buying some books would be a pretty good idea... While were on that topic, does anyone know of any good book(s) that I could buy and where from? Since I really want this to all work out, I may just post things on the forums when I make them, even if they are really bad, but I find that encouragement will make me more eager to learn more. Hope that's not a problem ^_^ Thanks again for the replies Steve ;)
