Exclamation Heavy model scene - Memory problem please help

Heloo friends im Wesley from India,

i modeled a scene in 3ds max containing 2,888,185 polygons and its pretty too high... when i set it for rendering in either using Vray (or) Mental ray.. it shows an error report saying "Application has run out of MEMORY". The poor thing is im not able to see my hard work in a result format...

Hope every one understands my problem, please some one help me i know you are experts out there...

This is the snapshot of the problem

Please can i get a solution to render this scene at a good render time or if someone give me the idea of (Vray proxy) please help me wether is there a way that we can use the "vray mesh" with the materials.. is there a solution wether vray proxy can be used with materials on it?

please help...

Hi wesley3dartist from the preview pics you posted it certainly looks like a bloody well modeled scene, good work on that!

and in my experience if you assign a material to a mesh then convert it to a vray-proxy the only thing that won't render out is the displacement map channel (if there is any) other then that the proxies work pretty well

and because the proxy files are only accessed at render time the memory usage is lowered considerably.
how much ram have you got by the way?
because under the Vray system roll out you can change the memory mode from default "static" to "dynamic" it has a much higher chance of rendering but the render time will increase quite a bit.

if it was me i would turn everything to a vray Proxy and use the dynamic memory and see how that works.
hope i helped you
cheers

wesley dude there are couple of ways u can get rid of this problem.i had the same problem when i was useing 1 gb ram. but now i have 4 gigis. ok so the solutions for this prob is.

1 - Descrease Sample Size to 32x32. insted of 64x64. or may even 16x16.
2- so next thing is Tree depth. Max Leaf Size .decrease Maxleaf size. increase Tree Depth- or Decrease it.
3- If useing Displacement maps . make sure to Tweak the Values in Displacment Rollout for Max edeglenght. etc Default size is 256 i guess. so use 128 insted.
4- Now try decreasing Global subdivisions frm 1.0 to 0.5 etc.
oks Try rendring lowres version.
5- Hmmm if u are useing LightCashe As in indirctilumination turn prefillter Rays off. and save your ID data before rendring the sean.

right now i am in a hotel and i have my laptop so i dont have vray installed in it. but i hope it helped u out if u need further assistant just let me know.Still there are TONS of ways u can Optmize this sean :)
