Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Gost city: the pier mutant Hello! I'm posting my wip. This is the first time I participate to a contest. I work with Modo and Lightwave. Modo 301 is amazing, especialy the new vector sculpting tool. I started with a rought idea and did very little sketches. I like to play around with the basic shape and add details, modify the geometry as it goes. For the face, as you can see, I used a skull in the backround layer just to help finding the right shape. I imagine a human beeing exposed to radiation could mutate in a very unorganized way, his skin should be burned, he should loose his hair, teeth etc. He could also develope some form of cancer that would change his appearance like a decease and not so much like a magical genetic manipulation. Well, here we go. Please give me your advices, critics etc... Thank you! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Thank you very much! Well, the final comp should be this character in an underground parking lot flood with water, which explains why this mutant got gills and tentacles ... maybe? I will use subscatering and a backlight to show some inner structure, at least in the thin tentacles from his back. (They are used to detect enemies or preys in total darkness just like some fishes from the abyss do.) This is a very cool contest and I've seen some really neat stuff done with Zbrush here!!! |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Here is a quick render test. The background is not done yet, but it will be dark with backlight. I should have something better tomorrow, didn't have much time to work on the project those last days... |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Here is a little comp. Didn't add water yet, just testing the general mood. I'd like to have a few more mutants in the back, partly hidden... Will post an update soon. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Thanks man!!! The junk is partly picture projected on a simple 3D geometry. What do u use for painting ur beast? Zbrush I guess... Do u intend to render everything in Zbrush or do you export the maps in your 3D package? |

| ULTRA COUCH POTATO LEVEL9 | Yeah the polypainting feature… fortunately it's quite convenient…. ![]() About the render… I have no clue… I've briefly checked out other software bundles and most of them just scare me… hehe… ![]() don’t have an idea where to start so yeah I’ll probably use zbrush… although it is quite s**t if it goes 4 renders, lighting and stuff like that… we’ll shall see dude… hopefully it’ll turn out good… ![]() What about yourself… any particular program you have in mind?? ![]()

Rep Power: 2 ![]() | cool looking model and the render is awesome, but you might want to put an object in the scene to show the scale of the character because it looks a bit like a toy. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Yes, you're right. I intended to add more mutants in the background, digging for food into the junk , searching around... a car crushed and rusted could give the sens of scale... |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Hey crazyivan, you should try modo... There is a new vector painting, far from beeing as good as Zbrush but It is a real 3D interface (compared with the wierd Zbrush workflow) and the rendering is AWSOME and fast! I love Zbrush but the result once I export the model into Lightwave, Modo or whatever package is far from beeing as good as it is in Zbrush. I've seeing some really awsome work around so It might just be me missing something... Did you try Mudbox? What do you think about it? |
