Thumbs up Ghost City - Anthony C.

Introduction:
Hey guys, one of my professor's saw this contest and sent the link over to me. Reading over the theme got me eager to enter so I decided to throw a quick concept sketch together for my WIP entry. As for the concept sketch its a rough sketch made early in the morning so quality isn't going to be that great but, its just so I stay within the rules of the contest.
Will be posting my progress as I go along modeling this character. Good luck to everyone else entering the contest. I see some great potential in other folks entries. Should be a great challenge!

The Idea Behind the Character:
I basically wanted to represent what a nuclear blast would actually do to a person instead of having him mutate into some other looking creature. I wanted to draw him as if his skin was melted during the initial blast and show him as if it had been a few days since the blast . Now, realizing what happend he searches for food to fight starvation and to stay alive. Which, is a very difficult task since the nuclear blast had killed all plant and animal life off. My final render will reflect his frustration with not being able to find food. I also wanted to demonstrate the fall off time of the radiation (tooth loss, retina mutation, flesh decay etc.) Hopefully I will be able to bring all these elements into my final model!

*Added Note: Dynamic Pose will be changed, I will post new dynamic pose tomorrow.

Thanks for all your great feedback, it really inspires me to get going on the project. But I'm taking my time setting up my zspheres in zbrush, trying to get a good first poly division and hopefully getting a good animation mesh. I've recently run into some qwirks with the beginning setup of my mesh affecting my later, high poly mesh in zbrush and so I'm trying to get away from that happening in the model because of the detail level I'm wanting to put in it. Hopefully by mid week I will have a screenshot of my base mesh!

Update

Well, finally got my base mesh together and started adding some detail work and finished posing charecter. I'm currently trying different techniques to get the melted skin look... seeing what works best. I probably won't have another update for a while so this will have to do for atleast the next week. Forgot to save a pic of the zsphere model before closing so if yall are interested ill throw another quick zsphere model together later... however, for now im eager trying to find a good way of getting the effects of the character I want to be present. Like always, comments are always welcome!

Updated: Added new close up of the head as of 200,000 poly count. Still not alot of detail yet.... but the next few stages of the modeling process will really get it lookin like somethin!

Plan of Attack:
Going to try to get the mouth and eyes modeled for the next week or so... i've been playing around with making teeth etc. and havent found a way i like but I believe i figured out a technique that will work. Once I have that done I can start adding more detail to his skin and hands which should take a while get it looking like i want it. After that put some clothes on him and start building my scene. Looking to finish this model by then end of the month or beginning of novemeber...

i like the emotion within the model... looks like the guy, chick it or what ever it is is in lot of pain and filled with anger and energy... like that very much... keep on creating bro...
