The Lost World: Matthew Scheuerman

Hey guys. :buttrockx

Hopefully I'll have time to finish up my submission to this contest. I've got a big project I'm working on for my day job that is taking up most of my nights.

Good luck to everyone!

Attatched is my idea sketch I layed out with pencil/ink/colored pencil.

Update: After that I layed out a value perspective to make sure everything was going to look the way I wanted.

Update: I layed out a color sketch that will help me get some of the color perspectives right later on.

Update: Needed to update my perspective and document dimensions so I created a new document and brought some of the elements in.

Thanks Adib :buttrockx

Update: Last night I pulled together my photography from a recent trip to Kauai. Using that as most of the resources I just began arranging elements till it looked like everything semi fit together in a sort of collage.

I originally started tracing my alien temple with the vector tool but in the end it didn't look dynamic enough. So I grabbed a stock photo from the Phoenix Dog Park and stretched it till it looked about right. Then I went back over it with the vector tool and traced the shapes till I got something I liked. Then I changed the colors till the lighting matched. I needed to add some details to the temple so I took an egyptian structure and set it's mode to multiply over the top portion of my temple.

I still have some highlights to add...details to add...rearranging a few elements...and color matching/levels to do but overall I'm pleased with this phase.

Finally some of the color and levels are starting to come together and I'm really pleased with this phase. Lots of work to still do but the overerall scheme is where I want it.

Pay attention to the colors, the saturation and the contrast of the part of your composition. It's too much visible the detach of the layers.

Thanks.

Hopefully I don't have too much contrast or saturation going on in this revision. I've tried to make the temple seem more realistic and added some "darkness" to the whole piece.

Good, you've improved a lot since I've seen the last time.
Continue to check the light direction of the objects, in a matte painting is one of the most important aspects.
