Silicis Passage

Hi everyone, I'm very excited about this, this is my first time entering a contest for 3-d graphics. I am using Maya 7.0 to create Silicis Passage (rock passage) yes I know its not the most create name. :happy: I drew a sketch of what I wanted it to look like. My drawing wasnt very good so I had to chagne some things. What inspired me to do a dead city between rocky mountains was the dwarf city in the book Eragon.

I have been working on this for awhile. mostly stop and go , stop and go

i like the concept, the moeling loks good but i think youve got some intersectiong geometry in some places, really nice idea though! good luck to you too

heres an update, I didnt get to work on this my entire break since I was away, i went to new mexico and saw some paintings of adobe homes. I thought they were just was what needed for my lost world. I worked on the homes these past 2 days. I added layers to the city.




EDIT: I just saw the flaw with my aquaduct not reaching the end of the pic. i will fix later

well i have definately made alot of changes since my last pic, these are all low res pictures, ill post my final one in a high res. umm tell me what u like and (or)dont like. I'm thinking about adding some birds in the sky

Hi,its a good idee,if you dont mind i sugest maiby a statue or an old alien fountain in the midle of your central building,keep it going its ok.

Thnk you everyone for your ideas, i will probably make the old statue in the center of the fountain. What i have been trying to do was to make soldiers (dead) and place them all over the city, having some of the buildings destroyed, with smoke and all that. but I'm still a newbie and i had a roman soldier i made, i just changed the colors, and other stuff. once i placed like 100 my program slowed down ALOT. i tried to render the scene and it crashed, its crashed so many times i dont think ill be able to do it. so this is why i cant upload a "wip" picture :(

here, is my final render, not much different than my last one but some slight changes, :) This is so exciting! I cant wait to find out who won


Story:
This takes place in the future in a far off galaxy on a small planet. They are primitive people but evolve very quickly especially in architecture. They live high in the mountians over the salt oceans below the clouds, most of the terrain is mountainy , but it has some vallies on the other side of the mountain ranges. Previously a war had broken out destroying some of their buildings, however they have rebuilt most of them quickly.
