Rep Power: 0 ![]() | "The Lost World" - SpinoMonkey Hello everyone, I'm new here, but I joined in light of this contest. Its the first time I've ever put any of my work in a contest, so hopefully if nothing else it'll be a fun experience. My Lost World, which takes place on an icy world far, far, away has a civilization that strikes beauty into the slopes of the mountainous regions, with tall structures suited for the snow, that gives off a form of advanced igloo feel. The civilization is very much alive, but calm, with most of the structures under the cold rock. My civilization have no evil intentions, nor do they have evil thoughts, they are pure, and like monks do not believe in killing animals, people, or the environment, and so, they have a very clean buildings, that produce clean air instead of polluting it. They try to be one with nature, and the few animals that do dwell upon this planet, everything about them centers around the core value of "unity." If I were to imagine the creatures that dwell in the structures I'd tend to believe they are furry, ape like people...except a lot smarter lol. I have a few images of what I did today, sorry no pics of the buildings yet. But the pics I have are off what the environment will look like, but hopefully a more improved as I move along lol My name is Chris Lee, I'm 17 worked with animation for a few years now. I'm currently in the USA and if you have any questions you can personally email me at monk_man_25@msn.com or just comment me here :) I'm using, 3ds Max 7 Photoshop Thanks, and good luck *tips hat* -Chris- Last edited by SpinoMonkey; 12-03-2006 at 08:38 PM. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Just a bit of an update, I've been working real hard today on this, and have made a bunch of progress. Of course, I still have a long ways to go with the landscape. My brother (also a 3d artist) would say, "you can do 90% of the work in 10% of the time, its that last 10% that takes 90% of the time." Well, he's very, very, very correct. I've been playing with the small details all day long. Oh well, still worth it, and I'm still having fun. -Chris- Last edited by SpinoMonkey; 12-01-2006 at 01:13 AM. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Yeah, had been thinking about making it a bit larger of a shot, thanks for confirming my thoughts :D Thanks for the support! EDIT: Also trying to make some new building types and such, but it's rough to keep with the same theme and not have them all look alike >.< I have come up with a simple process for extracting water in a energy efficiant way. But, not much else...soooo, it's a work in progress. Last edited by SpinoMonkey; 12-01-2006 at 01:52 PM. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | A bit more updated, with a different camera angle, shows more of the area, but I think I want to make it slightly more level, since I have a certain something special in the background :D I'd show you a sketch of what I want, but I don't have it in a jpeg format. I'll get it up here soon though. I've also changed around the idea behind them. I want them to be not extremely tech advanced, but still beyond our current tech. I'm also going for a bit more wear and tear. I believe the current official story I'm going with is...they were a group of "refugee" aliens who crashed upon the planet in a gigantic ship that was the entire species vessel. Seeing how the planet didn't have very good resources to repair their ship, they dug in, and tried to make the best of things, as the picture will show, things didn't work out so well, causing them to become a "lost civilization." |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Actually, that's what I'm thinking, a large looming ship, that has been salvaged for pieces for shelter and other wise, and from where the camera sits to all the way to the ship itself, are parts that fell off as it dug across the planet to its final resting position. Those pieces then became shelter and other looming reminders of the past. My idea for the poles or sticks in the ground is simply, piping or what not from the ship, a simply way to find your way through a path when it's snowing, I figured flags would have been attached to the poles to help one find their way...but since my civilization died out a while back, only a few flags remain. I'm kinda trying to go for that "they did the best they could, but the best just wasn't good enough" feel. Thanks though ^.^ |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Defintily like this. It is very similar to what I imagined, especially thier mecha. Just a question. Will it be snowing in the final piece? Because I think it "might" (and I use it loosely) make a difference. Especially as it is a tundra. Keep up the good work. Peace v(-_-)v |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Actually yeah, it will be snowing, a few things I want to do before it's finished is... 1) make it snow 2) add some icicles 3) add a bunch more wreckage 4) make some maps for the wreckage itself 5) make the spaceship in the background that's all I can think of on top of my mind, I'm sure there will be some other details as I go along I add, thanks for the support ;) |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Some things I still wish to do, so keep this in mind. 1) add some ice details 2) add falling snow, and snow on the wreckage 3) add a few flags that are still remaining 4) add the rest of the valley that this spaceship made when it crashed (background) 5) add the full fledged DOF not the watered down renders. 6) add better materials to the wreckage 7) adjust the lighting slightly. 8) adjust the shadows slightly. 9) add more poles in the ground 10) make some "huts" any other details anyone can think of?
