Rep Power: 0 ![]() | The Lost World Shawn Kinsey In the future, the follies of man and his vanity have compounded upon our children. The polar ice caps have melted, the waters have risen; the fossil fuels have run out. Mankind has literally lost his world, clinging unto what once would have been considered unbuildable real estate, due to great topographic obstacles- he now builds on what is left, the highest and often greatest sloping terrain. Mankind has been forced to confront his actions and acquire power in a very eco-conscious manner. His technology has greatly increased; indeed his science has saved him from extinction where the fangs and claws of his fellow life forms have not. My idea for a lost world occurs in this future, where the inhabitants of a city the size of NYC cling to side of a cliff, hanging in stream beneath a great Niagara like waterfall. Their city is liken to an insect colony, yet within the overall form lays a varied matrix of buildings, each generating power for the overall via a turbine slue. I have started sketching my ideas and am late to the game, but I’m working fast now and will continue to update and clarify my ideas through diagrams and the refinement of the end project. I didn’t want to get too far along without a really unique idea that would benefit the competition, now that I think I’ve found my niche I’ll start carving out this design Last edited by MaxMztr; 12-21-2006 at 09:33 AM. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | update Here are a couple picks of the particle I plan to use; I'm honing in on the final design. I'll need to normal map it and texture it. Then I will use particle flow to scatter it within the surface I updated last time. I need to rig it and position it against a cliff scene that I am developing. I do need some help from anybody out there familiar with real flow. I was trying to use max super spray with gravity and omni deflectors using meta particles, but they are extremely time consuming to render only 3 teapots with. I'll have hundreds of those particles, even if I calc on abstracted geometric representations and collapse the solution to a mesh to merge with the actual scene the calcs are way too high. It took 54 minutes on a 3.86 GHz with 2mb ram and no gi or refractive/reflective material yet. I do have a desktop with more horsepower but I don't like the render calc times for the max driven system. I had planned to combine this particle system with a snow spray to give that oxygenated water look. Anybody familiar with real flow? I know there's a demo available and was thinking about downloading it when I get the scene ready for that step. Well if you can give me some tips on creating a real particle driven waterfall, not a plane with an animated noise map in the opacity slot solution please help me out...thanks |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | another update Worked on some structural considerations, rigged and positioned the form, and tested some materials Last edited by MaxMztr; 12-26-2006 at 06:05 PM. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Particle Update I've been updating my particle, and playing in particle flow. I'm running out of memory but I am getting a more powerful machine to work on this. Also, the rock wall was made with vray displacement. I'm updating the bump map on it now, not real happy with that |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Final Due to the fact that my project was a forecast for a civilization in the future that utilized an in stream waterfall for power and intake of water I felt compelled to submit a rendering in addition to the project beneath the gravity fed water that displayed the city itself. Thanks all for the comments I'll be around Last edited by MaxMztr; 02-01-2007 at 01:02 AM. |
